Inter wingback Federico Dimarco feels that striker Romelu Lukaku can return with confidence after he managed to get on the scoresheet against Viktoria Plzen.

Speaking to InterTV after the win over Plzen, the 24-year-old highlighted how the Belgian’s goalscoring return can be a good omen for him as he integrates back into the team.

Returning to the pitch after two months away was always going to be difficult for Lukaku.

However, the 29-year-old showed few signs of rust in his cameo appearance in the closing stages of the Nerazzurri’s win over Plzen.

Lukaku’s performance was brief, but he showed all his hunger as well as his quality when he was on the pitch.

The 29-year-old capped off his display with a goal, which was the perfect way to round off the Nerazzurri’s emphatic victory, and bodes well for the future.

“I congratulated him, because he’s been out for two months, and that’s never easy for a striker,” Dimarco said.

“Romelu needs confidence and to be part of our group, which is a good group.”

“We’re happy for him because after two months he’s come back and scored a goal, and will be able to give us a big hand.”

Of the victory, Dimarco said that “We approached the game very well without focusing on our opponents, and we played a great match to reach the round of sixteen.”

“It’s also important because we had the most difficult group in the Champions League,” the wingback added.

“I think that few people thought we would have gotten past the group, and now we have, and we’ll think about Bayern and then about the knockouts.”
