Former Inter attacker Antonio Cassano has criticised the Nerazzurri, arguing that there is something missing from their performances in comparison to last season.

Simone Inzaghi’s side were pipped to the Serie A title by AC Milan by two points last season, but a mixed start to this term has left them eight points behind leaders Napoli after 11 matches, as they languish in seventh place.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Bobo TV Twitch stream yesterday, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, the ex-Roma and Real Madrid forward felt that Inter needed to fix something within the team, and that last weekend’s last gasp win over Fiorentina could be a wake-up call.

“I don’t see Inter as secure as last year,” Cassano argued.

“In Florence they had an important blackout, something needs to be fixed because they struggle so much, but with the return of (Marcelo) Brozovic, maybe it can be resolved.”

Meanwhile, the former Italy international also felt that an injury sustained by Romelu Lukaku at the start of the season had cost Inter dearly, with the Belgian able to pull them out of their poor form.

With Lukaku set to make his comeback, Cassano warned that it would take time for him to get fully up to speed again.

“I am convinced that in the Nerazzurri’s dark period, if Lukaku had been there he would have brought a few more points.

“Let’s not forget that, from the start season, it is Dzeko who is carrying the load.

“To evaluate Lukaku fully, I want to wait a few games though,” he added.

Cassano joined Inter from AC Milan in 2012 and spent a single season with the Nerazzurri, before completing a move to Parma.
