Inter are continuing to nurse striker Romelu Lukaku back to fitness and he is expected to make a major step up in his recovery during this evening’s match against Sampdoria.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Belgium striker will be named amongst the substitutes for the Serie A clash at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, but the plan is for him to be introduced at some point during the match.

Prior to a cameo against Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday, Lukaku had been out of action with an injury since August following his return to the club on loan from Chelsea, but Inter are hoping to build his fitness up with a substitute’s appearance today.

The Nerazzurri take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday, before the Derby d’Italia against Juventus next Sunday, and coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping to have Lukaku fit and firing for both games.

Meanwhile, the coach is still working out his options to partner Lautaro Martinez in attack against Sampdoria from the start, with Edin Dzeko the favourite ahead of Joaquin Correa.
