Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella caught the eye in the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over Sampdoria in Serie A yesterday and was considered the best player on the pitch, according to Italian media.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 25-year-old was the standout performer and his excellent display was capped by a magnificent goal in the first half.

The former Cagliari star brought a long ball under control before rifling into the top corner, after centre-back Stefan De Vrij had earlier given Inter the lead.

Joaquin Correa added to the scoreline in the second half with a fine solo goal, but it was Barella who earned the score in the newspaper’s player ratings, having been awarded a 7.5.

However, there were plenty of 7 grades awarded for the Nerazzurri, with De Vrij and Correa being joined by Hakan Calhanoglu and coach Simone Inzaghi.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana, defenders Milan Skriniar and Federico Dimarco, and ex-Roma pair Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Edin Dzeko were awarded a 6.5.

Elsewhere, Denzel Dumfries, Francesco Acerbi, Lautaro Martinez, and Romelu Lukaku all received a 6 rating.
