Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni has been likened to a quarterback in American Football after his wonderful long-range pass set up Nicolo Barella in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Sampdoria.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the 23-year-old was one of the best players on the pitch during the Serie A victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, and earned an assist with a pinpoint pass through the middle of the pitch to set up Barella.

The newspaper urged his style of passing, in the manner of a quarterback, to be shown to all students of football, and awarded him a score of 7 in their player ratings.

It was the same figure given to Barella after his stunning strike from Bastoni’s pass put Inter in complete control, and he was described as being decisive to the win.

Meanwhile, fellow goal scorers Stefan De Vrij and Joaquin Correa were also awarded a 7, as was midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

Milan Skriniar, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Lautaro Martinez were considered to have been worthy of a 6.5, whilst Andre Onana, Francesco Acerbi, Denzel Dumfries, Edin Dzeko, and Romelu Lukaku were all given a 6.
