Inter wingback Robin Gosens feels that he is getting closer and closer to top form.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash away to Bayern Munich, as reported by FCInterNews, the 28-year-old stressed that he expects that with patience and hard work he can reach his best and make a big contribution.

Gosens has yet to really make his mark in an Inter shirt, barring for a few sporadic moments where he’s really shown his quality.

A massively important goal against Barcelona in the Champions League clearly showed what the German can do, however.

Now, Gosens could again be given the opportunity to prove himself in tomorrow evening’s Champions League clash with Bayern.

From the former Atalanta wingback’s perspective, the best thing for him to do is to simply keep working.

Gosens feels like as he continued to work he is only feeling closer and closer to the best version of himself.

In the view of the German, it could only be a matter of time before the player whose performances for Atalanta and the German national team prompted the Nerazzurri to sign him.

“Being here is a strong feeling,” Gosens said of being in Munich with Inter.

“I played here with Germany at the Euros, and I scored against Portugal,” he noted, “from there my career changed up a lot, and it was one of the best moments in my career.”

“A player always wants to play, but it’s not always that easy,” the 28-year-old reflected.

“There’s not just one reason why I’m not playing much,” he added, “there was a long injury layoff, and I initially underestimated the problem, but now it’s important for me to feel back at my best.”

“I feel almost like the old Robin,” the German reflected, “I’m doing well and I hope to find more playing time, but we also have to accept the fact that the team is in good form right now and particularly Dimarco is.”

“I have to fight for my moment to come.”

“Tomorrow is important for me and for the team,” Gosens said of tomorrow evening’s clash with Bayern, “we won’t play the way we did in the reverse leg.”

“We’ve grown and it will be good to be able to test that against one of the best teams in Europe.”

“I can’t wait because it’s a special match for me and because here I have wonderful memories here,” Gosens said.

“In this stadium my life has taken a different path after the match against Portugal,” the German continued, “when I think about it I get  goosebumps, tomorrow many friends will come to watch me.”

“The group is all decided now, but it’s still an opportunity to play in the Champions League.”

Asked if he feels that his place is at risk for Germany at the World Cup, Gosens replied that “There’s a risk of it, there are players heading to Qatar who are currently in very good form for their clubs.”

“In the national team, however, I’ve proved myself,” he continued, “now the only thing I can do is continue to train well and, when I have the chance, have what I do on the pitch noticed.”

“I hope that the coach sees this.”

When it was pointed out that Bayern always try to play at their best in every match, Gosens said that “That’s how it will be tomorrow.”

“It will be a great challenge for us and it will help us to understand how good we really are.:

“Compared to the reverse fixture we’re a different team,” he added, “we’ve grown and I’m curious to see if we can go toe-to-toe with one of the strongest teams in Europe.”

“It will be a great challenge, even if it doesn’t have the same competitive ramifications.”
