Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic could find it much harder than he would have expected to regain his starting spot in midfield when he is back from injury.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who suggest that the form of Hakan Calhanoglu could keep the 29-year-old out of the team.

Brozovic’s injury looked like it could be a huge blow to Inter considering how his absences last season caused problems in midfield.

However, coach Simone Inzaghi looks to have found the right solution by playing Calhanoglu at the base of midfield in Brozovic’s place.

In fact, the Turk’s displays in front of the defense as the deepest player in the midfield trio have been a key part of the Nerazzurri’s major recovery in form.

Accordingly, there is not guarantee that when Brozovic is back in the team he will be able to immediately reassert his place in a midfield which, as things stand, has a very effective balance to it.
