Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon is set to miss out on Sunday’s Serie A clash with Inter through injury.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who report that the 31-year-old will be unable to face the Nerazzurri, while his availability for the World Cup with the Netherlands will be assessed.

De Roon had to come off the pitch at half time of Atalanta’s unexpected Serie A loss at the hands of Lecce yesterday.

The Dutchman was assessed and found to have a muscle injury which he had picked up during the first half of the match.

The worry for de Roon would be that if he puts too much stress on the injury, it could relapse and become more damaging.

Accordingly, more tests are scheduled for the next few days.

These tests will be in view of participation in the World Cup with the Dutch national team, but what looks virtually certain is that de Roon will not be able to play in Sunday’s Serie A clash with Inter.
