Italian agent Oscar Damiani feels that it would be strange to see a player of Marcus Thuram’s quality move on a free transfer, but that this would represent a great chance for a team like Inter.
Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttospot, via FCInterNews, Damiani gave his thoughts on the prospective availability of the 25-year-old without a transfer fee.
Thuram has been on Inter’s radar for quite some time, with the Frenchman having been strongly linked during the summer transfer window last year as part of the replacement plan for Romelu Lukaku.
A knee injury to the player meant that Inter decided to instead sign Joaquin Correa, whilst the Frenchman stayed at Borussia Monchengladbach.
However, the Nerazzurri’s interest in Thuram has never really gone away, and in the meantime he has been inching towards the end of his current contract with Gladbach, meaning that he could be available on a free transfer next summer.
Damiani said of Thuram, “Marcus is a top player, a winger who scores goals.”
“He’s a player with great physicality and would be able to play for any team.”
“Sartori wanted to sign him for Atalanta years ago,” Damiano noted. “I had also talked about it with his father, but then, since he already had an agent, we didn’t go any further.”
“Of course, if he became a free agent next summer it would be a great deal for anyone,” he noted.
“Of course there would then also be hefty wages to pay, and it would be very strange to see.”
