Inter forward Joaquin Correa will not be included in the Argentine national team squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

This is confirmed in a tweet from the Argentine FA, which announces that the Nerazzurri forward, along with Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez, have dropped out of the Albiceleste’s squad due to injury, in Correa’s case to his Achilles tendon.

Correa had been included in Argentina’s provisional 26-player squad for the upcoming World Cup, and even came off the bench and scored during the team’s 5-0 win over the United Arab Emirates in a warm-up friendly.

However, after feeling some discomfort, tests have revealed that the 28-year-old is suffering from an injury to his Achilles tendon.

The decision has been taken that the injury is serious enough to prevent Correa from being part of the Albiceleste’s squad during the World Cup, as it has been with Viola winger Gonzalez.

21-year-old Atlanta United attacking midfielder Thiago Almada has taken Correa’s spot in Argentina’s 26-player squad.
