Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini expects that Chelsea will make a move for Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries, and that the Nerazzurri want to replace him with a Premier League player in the form of Tottenham’s Emerson Royal.

Writing in his column for Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Ceccarini reports that Inter would not want to let Dumfries leave for anything less than €40 million.

Dumfries only arrived at Inter from PSV in the summer of 2021, but the Dutchman has already been attracting significant transfer attention.

The 26-year-old has been on Chelsea’s radar for some time, and according to Ceccarini, the Blues are keen to make their move.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri could look for a like-for-like replacement for Dumfries in the form of a player they had targeted in the past.

Tottenham Hotspur wingback Emerson Royal made the switch to North London from Barcelona in the summer of 2021, but the Nerazzurri could be keen to make their move for him if Dumfries is to be on his way.

“At Inter, Dumfries’s future remains an open questions, and if Chelsea continue to press hard for him then he could leave, for no less than €40 million,” Ceccarini writes.

“Their goal would not to let him go until at least next June,” he explains.

“It is clear that the Nerazzurri are aware of this risk, and for this reason have already begun to search for a possible replacement.”

“One of the profiles they like the most is that of Emerson Royal,” Ceccarini notes, “who could perhaps leave Tottenham at the end of the season.”

“Inter are currently trying to see whether it would be possible, and if so what the English club’s valuation would be.”
