Inter striker Romelu Lukaku’s very earliest memory of football is related to the Nerazzurri.

Speaking on the “Where are you from?” video series on the club’s official social media channel, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old revealed that his earliest memory from football was of Inter’s 3-0 victory over Lazio in the UEFA Cup final in 1998.

Inter did not necessarily enjoy their most successful spell in the club’s history in the late 1990s, but they did put together a team with numerous iconic players in a Nerazzurri shirt.

Three of those players got on the scoresheet in the 1998 UEFA Cup final in the form of Ivan Zamorano, Javier Zanetti, and Brazilian icon Ronaldo.

Lukaku was just a young child at the time, but has revealed that watching that match was the first football-related event that really made an impression on his memory.

The Nerazzurri striker looked back on his early exposure to football, noting that “My father played as a footballer for 8-9 years in the top flight.”

He continued that “My very earliest memory in football was Inter beating Lazio in the 1998 UEFA Cup final.”
