Inter are hoping to reach an agreement with defender Milan Skriniar over a new contract at the club, and will meet with his representatives before Christmas.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are determined to reach a conclusion on whether Skriniar will pen an extension to his existing deal, which expires in June, and have already submitted an offer with wages of €6 million per season, plus bonuses.

It is believed that Inter are unwilling to go beyond this as a standard salary, but directors and Piero Ausilio and Dario Baccin are ready to meet Skriniar’s agent, Roberto Sistici, in person to attempt to thrash out a deal.

The pair have travelled to Malta, where Skriniar is currently working with the rest of Inter’s squad as part of a winter training camp, but will not begin formal discussions until the Nerazzurri return to Italy next week.

Inter would be willing to negotiate other terms of the contract, including whether it will be for four or five years, and potential bonuses, but are reluctant to surpass the salaries of Lautaro Martinez and Marcelo Brozovic.

Should no agreement be reached, Inter would consider selling Skriniar in January to avoid losing him for free at the end of the season, and cashing in on the 27-year-old could mean the sale of Denzel Dumfries is avoided in the summer.
