Former Inter midfielder Benoit Cauet believes that Inter can come back in the Serie A title race even if their margin for error is now razor-thin.
Speaking to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, the Frenchman noted that things could depend significantly on whether Napoli allow the Nerazzurri back into the Serie A title race.
The eleven points separating Inter from league leaders Napoli look like a massive gap to make up.
If Napoli maintain their level from the first part of the campaign or anything close to it, it could be all but impossible for the Nerazzurri, as well as AC Milan, Juventus, Lazio, or Roma, to catch up to them.
However, there is still much that can happen in the 23 matches remaining in the season.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri will have to hope that the Partenopei slip up at some point in the matches remaining this season, and then know that they cannot afford to pass up on any gifts that the league leaders give them.
“They can no longer afford any slip-ups, there’s not margin for error any more,” Cauet said of his former team’s chances in the title race.
“But I know they can potentially win ten in a row, and then a lot will depend on whether Napoli slip up.”
“I still believe they can do it,” Cauet added.
