Inter are keen to retain Romelu Lukaku for another season on loan, but it depends on them securing a discount from Chelsea and the striker finding form over the coming months.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are open to bringing the Belgium international back for another year next summer, but not at the terms agreed at the start of the season.

CEO Beppe Marotta is looking to negotiate with Premier League club Chelsea to secure more favourable terms than the €8 million loan fee, plus an additional €4m in bonuses, although Lukaku’s determination to remain at the Nerazzurri may also play into their favour.

Despite this, it is also dependent on Lukaku himself to convince Inter to retain him, with the 29-year-old plagued by injuries and poor form since returning to his former club.

The ex-Manchester United striker has worked on his fitness over recent weeks and returned to his ideal weight, but must begin to score goals in the second half of the campaign to secure his future at Inter.
