Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot has poured some cold water on transfer links to Inter defender Stefan de Vrij.
Speaking to Dutch news outlet AD, via FCInterNews, the coach emphasized that his team cannot pay high wages in response to transfer rumours linking them to the 30-year-old and to Roma midfielder Giorginio Wijnaldum.
Feyenoord have been linked with two high-profile former players in recent days, in the form of de Vrij and Wijnaldum.
The reports have suggested that the Dutch club could try and orchestrate ambitious returns for one or both of the pair, who came through the academy of the Rotterdam-based team.
However, the fact remains that de Vrij earns significantly more than players would expect to in the Eredivisie on his deal with Inter.
The same can also be said of former Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Wijnaldum as well.
Asked about the transfer links to the duo, Slot was clear in saying that “We can’t get close to the wages that players earn at the top clubs.”
“Right now the names of de Vrij and Wijnaldum are unrealistic,” he added. “It would simply be impossible for us to sign them.”
