The contract extension negotiations between Inter and defender Milan Skriniar are now completely in the balance, and CEO Beppe Marotta knows it.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, who analyze the CEO’s remarks about the situation after the team’s Serie A win over Napoli yesterday.

Marotta was asked about the contract talks with Skriniar, and whilst the executive replied that he “always tries to be optimistic in life,” in this particularly case that must also mean being “realistic.”

The Nerazzurri CEO went on to state that “We can do a lot, but we can’t do the impossible.”

For the Gazzetta, this is a clear reflection of the dynamic that has been reached at this stage of the contract extensions between Inter and Skriniar.

The club’s offer is on the table, a new deal worth around €6 million net per season plus around €500,000 in add-ons.

The defender can take or leave the deal that the Nerazzurri are offering, and if he declines then there would be nowhere to go, as the club have gone essentially as high as they can with their offer.

Inter want their answer in the next couple weeks, one way or the other.

Marotta did not give the impression of a man who thinks that negotiations are over and that Skriniar will leave, and for the Gazzetta this paints the right picture of the current state of negotiations.

However, behind the “optimism” of the CEO there was an obvious sentiment that he does not know which way things will go.

This can be taken as the clearest evidence yet that Skriniar’s future hangs in the balance.
