Inter’s hopes of winning the Serie A title this season are all but over after slipping to a 2-2 draw against Monza, Italian media suggest.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere della Sera, the Nerazzurri have too many issues to realistically challenge for the Scudetto, as they sit seven points behind league leaders Napoli after playing a game more than the Partenopei.

Inter appeared set to secure all three points at the U-Power Stadium until Luca Caldirola snatched an equaliser in stoppage time, and it is argued that it is proof that the Nerazzurri are not ready to compete for the title.

Having defeated Napoli 1-0 on Wednesday, Inter were described as being careless against Monza, whilst the two goals conceded highlighted their defensive fragility.

Similarly, the Nerazzurri wasted opportunities to see out the game earlier, and this has become a concern for Simone Inzaghi’s side that has proven costly in the title race.

The coach failed to control the game sufficiently, and Inter offered Monza hope of a way back into the game that the hosts duly took.

Indeed, Caldirola’s late goal is described as being the moment that definitively ends Inter’s prospects of winning the Serie A title.
