Inter Milan Legend Beppe Bergomi: “I Would Have Never Turned Down €50M For Milan Skriniar”

Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that in hindsight it was not the right decision for the Nerazzurri to turn down big offers for defender Milan Skriniar.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the former defender argued that even though Skriniar is obviously an important player for Inter, he would have accepted the offer for the 27-year-old and searched for a replacement.

Inter ultimately decided against accepting any offers from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window.

Seemingly, the inability to sign Torino’s Bremer and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic convinced the Nerazzurri that they would be best off keeping hold of the Slovakian in order to not weaken their defense for the season.

However, the Nerazzurri knew full well that they would have to then convince Skriniar to extend his contract, or else risk losing a player for free who they had rejected big money offers for only twelve months prior.

Of the former Sampdoria defender, Bergomi said that “He’s Inter’s most used player, but I’d never turn down a €50 million offer for a defender on principle.”

“You have to be ready to identify certain types of players on the transfer market, there are a lot of players out there.”

Bergomi also weighed in on the refereeing error by Juan Luca Sacchi in Inter’s Serie A draw with Monza, stating that “It’s an error that is very much in the same vein as the one in Milan’s match against Spezia last season.”

“We must still give credit to Monza,” he added, “they are a well-organized team with very modern players.”

“Inter looked better in possession, but they didn’t dominate,” Bergomi said.
