Inter wingback Matteo Darmian is hoping that the team can follow up from last season and win the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia once again this season.

Speaking to Italian media, via FCInterNews, the 33-year-old also expressed the hope that he will deserve a contract extension at the Nerazzurri with his performances on the pitch.

Inter’s campaigns in Serie A and in the Champions League are now well underway, but they are only just beginning their bid to win the Coppa Italia for a second consecutive season with their round of sixteen match against Parma this evening.

Then, next week, the Nerazzurri will play for another trophy that they won last season in the form of the Supercoppa Italiana, facing off against city rivals AC Milan.

For Darmian’s part, the former Manchester United and Parma wingback is hoping that the team can be as successful in both competitions this season as they were last.

“When you play for a club like Inter, every trophy is important,” he said.

“We have a match in the Coppa Italia this evening, and we want to go out and play to defend our title from last season.”

Darmian added of the Supercoppa that “It’s also one of our goals for this season.”

And of a prospective extension to his contract which currently expires at the end of June, Darmian said that “Right now it’s the least of my worries, I’m focused on the pitch.”

“I’ll try to go out there and deserve it on the pitch,” the 33-year-old stressed.
