Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini insisted that the most important thing was earning all three points after the Nerazzurri edged past Hellas Verona in Serie A yesterday.

The Italian international started at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as Inter ran out 1-0 winners against the Gialloblu, courtesy of an early Lautaro Martinez goal, to move level with third-place Juventus in the Serie A table.

In an interview with the club’s inhouse television channel Inter TV after the final whistle, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Gagliardini was adamant that it was crucial to secure the win, regardless of how close the score was in the end.

“It was fundamental to bring home the three points,” the former Atalanta midfielder claimed.

“We were not brilliant but it was a solid and compact performance. We showed that we play and fight as a team. We are happy and ready for the Supercoppa Italiana.”

Despite featuring intermittently for Inter this season, Gagliardini played against Verona just days after starting in the Coppa Italia against Parma, and felt that his work in training allowed him to slot into the team.

“Yes, I am happy that I had a good performance. I am happy to have played these two games. Let’s keep working as you know I always do and now we look forward to the final.”

Inter now turn their attention to the Supercoppa Italiana against AC Milan in Riyadh, and Gagliardini was looking forward to competing for silverware in a Derby della Madonnina.

“It will be a match full of emotion for sure. It is always a final, all the more so as it is a derby it will be a great game, in a new stadium and in a new atmosphere. We are playing for a trophy and we want to bring it home,” he concluded.

Gagliardini joined Inter in January 2017 and has made 174 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals.
