Inter striker Lautaro Martinez insisted that the club were obliged to perform well in the Supercoppa Italiana against AC Milan on Wednesday.

The Argentina international scored the only goal as Inter defeated Hellas Verona at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Serie A yesterday evening, in the final match before the squad fly out to Saudi Arabia to take on the Rossoneri in Riyadh for the Super Cup.

In an interview after the win with the club’s inhouse television channel, Inter TV, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Martinez was adamant that the Nerazzurri’s proud history and strength of squad meant that they had to give their all to secure the silverware.

“It’s very important, we must continue to win because our history demands it and the quality of the players is there. We have to think about resting and preparing the team well and bring the cup back here,” he claimed.

After scoring against Verona, the former Racing Club striker admitted that Inter had come through a tough match against a team battling for their lives in the relegation zone in Serie A.

“Today was not an easy match, but we knew that. They play a different football compared to many other teams, we had to get used to it, we played our game and in the end we managed to bring home the three points we wanted.”

The striker lifted the World Cup in Qatar with Argentina last month and has found form since returning to club football, with Martinez putting it down to his approach to his football.

“The attitude must always be right, I always try to do my best to help the team and make people happy,” he added.

Martinez has scored nine goals in 18 Serie A appearances for Inter this season, in addition to a goal against Barcelona in the Champions League.
