Inter captain Samir Handanovic is set to retire from playing at the end of the current season.
This according to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, who report that whilst nothing has been made official, the Slovenian has made his decision to hang up his gloves, and that he intends to transition into coaching.
Handanovic’s contract with Inter is set to run out at the end of June, and as with defender Danilo D’Ambrosio he has been considering whether he wants to follow Matteo Darmian by extending his deal at lower terms.
According to the Gazzetta, the 38-year-old former Udinese keeper will not extend his deal, and instead is ready to retire from playing.
Despite remaining Inter’s club captain, Handanovic has dropped out of the Nerazzurri’s starting eleven in favour of summer signing Andre Onana after having began the season as the regular starter in goal for the Nerazzurri.
