Legendary former Inter midfielder Nicola Berti feels that current Nerazzurri player Hakan Calhanoglu has hit heights that he never did when he played for AC Milan.
Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Berti praised the 28-year-old former Rossoneri midfielder for his growth and evolution in an Inter shirt.
Calhanoglu made the switch from Milan to Inter in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer.
The former Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen player had been an important player for the Rossoneri, but there were still some questions about the kind of impact that he would make upon crossing the derby divide.
Calhanoglu has only grown in importance in his eighteen months as an Inter player.
This season, the Turkish international has shown that he can very adeptly play the regista position, something which was barely hinted at whilst he played for the Nerazzurri’s city rivals.
“Against Atalanta in the Coppa Italia, he played an amazing match,” Berti said of Calhanoglu.
“He was never this good playing for Milan,” he continued.
“I think he’s found that the centre of the pitch is where his real position is,” he added.
“Credit also has to be given to Simone Inzaghi for this.”
