Inter are very much keen to sign defender Francesco Acerbi on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that with the 34-year-old having become a real source of stability in the Nerazzurri’s defense, they want to keep hold of him, though not for the €4 million purchase option.

Inter only signed Acerbi on an initial season-long loan deal from Lazio, as the player’s age meant that the club were unsure as to whether they considered him to be a longer-term reinforcement in defense.

However, the former Sassuolo’s performances have been consistently outstanding, whilst the fact that Milan Skriniar is set to depart and Stefan de Vrij’s situation is up in the air mean that the continuity he would provide would be appreciated in a defensive rebuild.

In Acerbi’s loan deal from Lazio, there is the option for Inter to sign the 34-year-old permanently for €4 million, but the Nerazzurri want to negotiate a lower fee than that with the Biancocelesti.
