Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu feels that the Nerazzurri must only focus on themselves and not get distracted by Napoli’s exploits at the top of the Serie A table.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old stressed that the Nerazzurri are only thinking about what they can control and trying to get the best possible result against Sampdoria this evening.

Inter are looking to build on the momentum of last weekend’s win over AC Milan in the derby by beating Sampdoria away.

Even three points against the Blucerchiati would only reduce the gap on leaders Napoli to thirteen.

However, the Nerazzurri cannot do anything about the gap that they now face at the talk, whilst they can always concentrate on themselves and on building up to the rest of their season in the best way possible.

Calhanoglu and his teammates have an opportunity to give themselves a big boost against Sampdoria, though doing so will hardly be straightforward.

“Winning in the derby was very important for us, and now this will be a tough match as is always the case here at the Marassi,” the midfielder said.

“But we’re well-prepared for this, and we want to win,” he added. “We have to give our best.”

Calhanoglu noted that “Napoli are doing brilliantly, but we have to focus on ourselves and on winning matches, such as this one.”
