Nothing short of an “abyss” now separates Inter from league leaders Napoli in Serie A after the Nerazzurri’s latest dropped points in the league.

This is the verdict in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that after the Nerazzurri failed to beat Sampdoria away, the gap from the Partenopei has now become a “total abyss.”

Inter will not exactly have felt that Napoli would’ve been within striking distance in the Serie A title race even if they had taken three points against Sampdoria, given that the league leaders had already beaten Cremonese earlier in the weekend.

However, the Nerazzurri would have at least had the chance to maintain the gap from the Campanians at no more than thirteen if they had managed to break through at the Marassi.

Instead, a frustrating goalless draw has seen that 13-point difference between the two sides increase to fifteen, an enormous margin after 22 matches played that for the Gazzetta only confirms that there is little hope of catching up.
