Legendary former Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder has revealed the story of how Treble-winning coach Jose Mourinho had accurately predicted the scoreline of the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Champions League final win over Bayern Munich.
Speaking to Dutch broadcaster RTL 7, via FCInterNews, Sneijder explained that the coach privately gave defender Marco Materazzi a sealed letter in which he wrote that the match woulf end in an Inter win by a 2-0 scoreline.
Mourinho certainly went out on a high when he left Inter to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2010, guiding the Nerazzurri to a European Treble which was capped off in his final match as coach.
The Portuguese tactician guided Inter past Chelsea, CSKA Moscow, and Barcelona in the knockout rounds to reach a final against Bayern Munich.
Two goals from Diego Milito were enough to win Inter the match, and with it the Champions League and the Treble along with the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia.
As Sneijder explained, “Mourinho had a special relationship with Marco Materazzi, and a few weeks before the final he called him into his office and told him, ‘Here’s a letter, but don’t open it until after the final.'”
“When he opened it, it had the scoreline of the win against Bayern written on it!” the Dutchman went on.
