Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has been told by Turkish national team head coach Stefan Kuntz that he will be made the cornerstone of the national team rebuild.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that Kuntz has reached out to the 29-year-old to tell him that he wants for him to be at the centre of the project as the coach looks to refresh the squad going into the future.

Calhanoglu has already been made the captain of the Turkish national team, taking over the armband from Burak Yilmaz after the striker retired from international football following the country’s failure to qualify for the World Cup last year.

The Nerazzurri midfielder has only been improving in form with his club over the past two seasons, as he has made himself an absolutely indispensable player at the heart of midfield.

According to FCInterNews, Turkey coach Kuntz has reached out to tell Calhanoglu that he will have a similar role for the national team, even as some other senior players are phased out in favour of calling up more young players.
