Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was left furious with the team’s performance in their 1-0 defeat to Bologna in Serie A earlier today.

The Nerazzurri were beaten by a second half Riccardo Orsolini goal at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, but rarely looked like threatening and now find themselves 18 points behind league leaders Napoli.

In an interview with Italian television broadcaster DAZN after the final whistle, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Inzaghi admitted that his side’s display in the first half was not good enough and that he demanded more aggression from his players.

“We had a terrible first half, it was ugly,” Inzaghi declared.

“The approach was not the best. We were better in the second half, had we found the goal we would be talking about another game.

“We could have created more, but the conditions of the pitch did not help us or Bologna. We had to put in more running and aggression, but in our best best moment we conceded an awful goal.

“We needed more lucidity and coolness. We had a couple of important situations that would have allowed us to go ahead and manage better.

“We needed more running, aggression and determination. Usually our approaches to matches is different, I can’t be happy.”

Inter came into the match off the back of an impressive 1-0 win over Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday, but Inzaghi insisted that it was not an excuse for the Nerazzurri’s lacklustre performance against Bologna.

“Tiredness is there, but apart from some forced and some intentional changes we know that European matches take a lot of energy. We’re used to it, three days after Porto we had to do better in several aspects today.

“Our form after Champions League games is something we have to be good at analysing. In front of our fans we did very well, away we have to change gear: we will need it from here to the end to keep second place.

“We will analyse everything as we always do, especially after a defeat that stings. We have to focus on ourselves, knowing that in some games after other important European games we have to do more and better.”

Inter appeared to struggle to make an impact on the right, but Inzaghi pointed to a tactical move from Bologna as part of the explanation.

“On the right flank there was more difficulty because Soriano didn’t go out and stayed in the middle. There was less space.

“I’m not happy but we will analyse it together with the staff and the boys. In the second half we took charge, and apart from a risk from a bad pass we had to be better at staying more closed so as not to take the goal.”
