Inter striker Lautaro Martinez admitted that the Nerazzurri are being held back by a lack of consistency, after they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Bologna today.

A second half Riccardo Orsolini goal was enough to give the Rossoblu victory in the Serie A clash at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, as Inter struggled to find a breakthrough and were consigned to defeat.

In an interview with Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Martinez conceded that the Nerazzurri were not finding their rhythm consistently enough and this was what prevented them from challenging Napoli for the title.

“Talking in the heat of the moment can be wrong, but now I say that this way we are not getting anywhere,” the Argentina international said.

“We have to change now and have more consistency, we had a great game in the Champions League, then we come here fully fired up and we give this performance.

“It’s not good. We must keep pushing and raise our level, we’re not going anywhere like this.”

However, Martinez dismissed suggestions that Inter had become complacent since winning the Scudetto in 2021, whilst taking the opportunity to apologise to supporters for the poor display.

“I don’t think we’re too relaxed, no. Bologna have a great team, they deserved to win. We must have more consistency: the pitch was bad for everyone, as was the weather.

“I’m here to apologise to all the fans who always support us and they are many.”

The former Racing Club striker admitted that the squad had discussed their issues privately, whilst he addressed his fluctuating form in front of goal.

“Sure, we talk about it a lot. But me, what I’m saying here on TV, I’ve already told my teammates. I say what I feel like saying.

“I always try to give my best, then sometimes the ball goes in and sometimes it doesn’t. I always work for Inter and give everything, it’s you who have to analyse my performance. I am a player and you are the journalists.”

Martinez stressed that Inter needed to find more continuity in their results in order to compete for trophies, adding that their mixed form was their undoing.

“And that’s what I said before. Continuity is important to achieve goals and playing like this we’re not getting very far. We are 18 points off Napoli and we all have to work harder,” he concluded.

The 26-year-old joined Inter from Racing Club in 2018 and has scored 90 goals in 215 appearances in all competitions.
