Inter wingback Matteo Darmian has revealed that his side have extra motivation to secure victory in today’s Serie A clash against Bologna.

The Nerazzurri travel to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, with Darmian starting at centre-back, in their quest to secure a top four finish and Champions League football next season.

In an interview with Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Darmian insisted that Inter were looking to make amends for a costly defeat to the Rossoblu in April last season, which contributed to them letting the Serie A title slip away.

“We all know what happened last year, this must give us an extra push. It’s a difficult match, we will have be at our best to bring home the victory,” the former Manchester United defender declared.

Inter come into the encounter off the back of an impressive 1-0 win over Porto in the Champions League in midweek, and Darmian was hopeful that the result would give them confidence.

“We’re coming into this match well, it’s normal that after such an intense Champions League game it won’t be easy. That match gives us the right confidence and energy to face a difficult opponent.

“We must have the same determination in every match, we want to have consistency of results that maybe didn’t happen before. We’re already looking positively at today’s match,” he added.

Darmian joined Inter on an initial loan from Parma in 2020 before making the move permanent the following year, and has scored eight goals in 95 appearances in all competitions.
