Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi managed to show that the matches against teams lower down in the table don’t have to be a struggle with how his team approached yesterday’s 2-0 win over Lecce.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, who argue that the Nerazzurri put in the kind of display that’s needed to ensure that they don’t keep making life unnecessarily difficult for themselves in matches against midtable opposition.
Against Lecce, Inter looked well-prepared for the kind of match that the Puglians would be trying to play.
The Nerazzurri were organized in possession so that they would always have options on the ball, bypassing the aggressive marking of the opposition so that they wouldn’t get overrun in midfield.
This was starkly in contrast to a more lethargic and predictable style in possession against Bologna in last Sunday’s loss, or the match against Empoli in January.
Moreover, there was a crispness in possession that had been missing when the Nerazzurri fell to a scoreless draw against Sampdoria earlier last month.
This is the blueprint for matches against this type of opposition for Inter, and whilst there is a long way to go before they prove that they can approach these matches conclusively, Inzaghi has at least gotten it right after the loss at Bologna.
