Former Inter CEO Ernesto Paolillo feels that current Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio has a remarkable ability to analyze and understand the qualities of different players.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, the former CEO praised Ausilio as one of the most proficient directors in his role, and also spoke about what he thinks that the Nerazzurri will be missing out on when Roberto Samaden steps down as head of the youth academy.

Ausilio has now been Inter’s Sporting Director for almost a decade, and during his time in the role he has been a point of continuity through different ownerships and through change in other key directorial positions.

The Sporting Director has frequently been lauded for his knowledgeable and well-informed approach to building the squad, and from the perspective of former CEO Paolillo, he is certainly a man with a great understanding of the game and of individual players.

Paolillo explained that “I brought him in, because for as long as I was working with the youth academy in my capacity as a director, I often spoke with him.”

“And I immediately saw that he had this deep knowledge of every footballer,” Paolillo continued.

“He knew the qualities, characteristics and skills of each player, from A to Z.”

Paolillo also spoke about the current head of Inter’s youth academy, Samaden, who is reportedly set to step down at the end of the season.

“I put him in that role,” the former CEO noted.

“He was already in the youth sector, when I arrived at Inter Samaden was an excellent coach.”

“Talking to executives and employees, they were all keen to stress just how meticulous his preparations always were,” he explained.

“I immediately noticed his organizational skills,” Paolillo said of Samaden.

Of the decision of Samaden to leave Inter, the former CEO said that “The news amazed me, and as a fan, because I remain a fan, I consider it a great loss.”

“Having worked alongside him for so many years, I know the value he brings, and I know how much he’s given to Inter.”

“However, I don’t know his reasons,” Paolillo added.
