Former Inter, AC Milan, and Lazio midfielder Cristian Brocchi feels that, whilst the Nerazzurri may have a strong squad, they are not at the top level as the Rossoneri and Napoli are in terms of their style of play.
Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, via FCInter1908, the former midfielder gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s style of play as part of a discussion on which Serie A teams are capable of playing at the highest level in Europe.
It has come as something of a surprise that Italian teams have been performing as well as they have done in European competition, particularly in the Champions League.
Already AC Milan have managed to eliminated Tottenham Hotspur, despite a financial disadvantage compared to their Premier League opposition.
Moreover, both the Nerazzurri and the Partenopei have a good chance of progressing to the quarterfinals of the competition along with the Rossoneri given the first leg advantages that they have in round of sixteen ties against Porto and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively.
“I think of Inter as being the least ‘European’ of the three Italian teams who could go on in the Champions League,” Brocchi said, “seeing these teams go on could send an important message for Italian football.”
“Just talking about the style of play, Inter have a lot of top players, but the way that they play is more linear, they don’t have the kind of European-quality style of play that Milan and Napoli do,” the former midfielder added.
