Inter have reached the quarterfinal stage of the Champions League for the first time in 12 years after a defensive masterclass away at the Estadio Do Dragao against Porto ended goalless.

The Nerazzurri showed from the get go that this was going to be a game where the focus was on defending the lead from the first leg, a gameplan executed to perfection.

In the second half, Simone Inzaghi‘s men continued to work hard as a unit and as a team defensively, sacrificing the attack to keep a clean sheet, which is why the team barely created anything.

And Inter were lucky towards the end when Porto hit the woodwork a couple of times after Denzel Dumfries made a decisive goal-line clearance as well as André Onana made match-winning saves. Go here for casino bonus with no deposit required

André Onana – 7: Proved once and for all why he must start every game for instead of Handanovic. Monumentally important and match winning saves. MOTM.

Matteo Darmian – 7: Heroic performance which will never be forgotten by Inter fans for as long as he is alive on this earth. Professionalism personified.

Francesco Acerbi – 7: Phenomenal defensively throughout showing leadership and character. Was mocked and laughed at when arrived. Who’s laughing now?

Alessandro Bastoni – 7: Has been deservedly criticized for not being good enough defensively but based on this performance those talks can be put to bed.

Denzel Dumfries – 6: The rating is solely for the goal-line clearance which won Inter the tie because his performance otherwise was abysmal. As usual.

Nicolo Barella – 6: Didn’t have a good game at all, especially in the first half where he misplaced simple passes time and time again putting team in danger.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 7: Phenomenal once more at the highest level. Would’ve been MOTM if not for Onana’s heroics and it feels harsh not to award it to him.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6,5: Struggled in the first half but worked himself into the match and showed why Inzaghi trusts him as much as he does. Calming presence.

Federico Dimarco – 7: Showed how much he cared by working his socks off from the minute the game started until he couldn’t walk another step and came off.

Edin Dzeko – 5,5: Poor performance in the attacking phase where he offered absolutely nothing losing ball far too easily but worked oh so hard in defence.

Lautaro Martinez – 5,5: Worst performance so far this season. Invisible for the first 20 minutes in both phases. Improved as game went on without being good.

Romelu Lukaku – 5,5: Replaced Dzeko in the 70th minute to help Inter hold up the ball in Porto’s half which he didn’t do more than at most a few times.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6,5: Came on for Dimarco in the 70th minute and showed just how important he is to have on the bench in these particular situations.

Stefan de Vrij – 6,5: Substituted on for an injured Bastoni in the 74th minute and did well helping to shore up the defence when Inter where on the ropes.

Marcelo Brozovic – N/A: Brought on for his BFF Barella in the 80th minute and didn’t play long enough to be able to be rated.

Milan Skriniar – N/A: Entered the pitch in the 80th minute for the heroic Darmian and didn’t play long enough to be able to be rated.

Simone Inzaghi – 7: Gave a defensive masterclass Helenio Herrera, Giovanni Trapattoni and José Mourinho would’ve been proud of. Fantastic achievement.

Szymon Marciniak – 6: Annoyingly picky and inconsistent which seemed to irritate the players on both teams. Got all major decisions right which is main thing.

Inter – 7: In the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time since 2011 after a heroic performance which already is an Inter classic.
