Tigre and Italy striker Mateo Retegui’s evaluation has quadrupled off the back of his recent form, as Inter Milan are considering a summer move for him.
This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, via FCInterNews, who report that the 23-year-old has been a target for the Nerazzurri for some time now but that they will have to pay roughly €20 million rather than €5 million as would have been the case a few months ago.
Retegui has really burst onto the scene in recent months, with the young striker’s form for Tigre where he is the Argentine top flight’s highest scorer has earned him a call-up to the Italian national team.
In his first two caps for the Azzurri Retegui scored two goals, against England and Malta in EURO 2024 qualifiers.
According to Di Marzio, Inter have been following Retegui for some time before then, with Assistant Sporting Director Dario Baccin having spotted the striker’s performances during scouting trips to South America.
However, if previously Retegui may have been a lower-cost target for the Nerazzurri, there is little question that his recent form has caused his valuation to skyrocket.
According to Di Marzio, it would now take €20 million to get a deal for the 23-year-old.
On the other hand, a fee of a quarter of that may well have been sufficient prior to Retegui’s recent explosion in form.
It is unclear whether or not Inter will be willing to move for Retegui at his current valuation, although Di Marzio expects that he is still very much a target.
The 23-year-old is currently on loan at Tigre from Boca Junior but there is a clause which would allow Tigre to sign him permanently, with Boca then receiving a portion of any sale to another club.
Retegui has scored 25 goals in 35 league matches for Tigre, and 29 in 51 in all competitions, and has been linked with the likes of Atalanta, Lazio, Udinese, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, West Ham United, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Eintracht Frankfurt in addition to Inter.
