Fiorentina head coach Vincenzo Italiano is keeping tight-lipped regarding the rumours linking him to Inter as a possible replacement for Simone Inzaghi if the current Nerazzurri coach is sacked.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI Radio, via FCInterNews, the current Viola boss made clear that his only commitment right now is to his current team.
Inzaghi’s future as Inter coach now hangs in the balance after three consecutive defeats in Serie A, and four from the team’s last five in the league.
Whilst the 46-year-old has not yet been sacked by the club, it is reported that he may have just over a week to reverse course and save his job.
In the event that Inzaghi and Inter were to part ways, the club would set out trying to find a replacement, with all of Antonio Conte, Roberto De Zerbi, and Thiago Motta persistently linked.
Meanwhile, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly another coach the Nerazzurri have made contact with.
Italiano is another name reported to be on the Nerazzurri’s shortlist based on the job that he has done with Fiorentina.
The 45-year-old took over the Tuscans at the start of last season, having greatly impressed with the job that he had done guiding Spezia to promotion from Serie B and then securing safety in the top flight in style.
Whilst things have been up and down for Italiano in Florence at times, he has earned plaudits for the style of football and has La Viola alive in the latter stages of the Europea Conference League and the Coppa Italia.
Moreover, Italiano, who spent the majority of his playing days with Hellas Verona, just masterminded an impressive Fiorentina win over Inter over the weekend.
It is not too hard to see why Italiano is reportedly on Inter’s shortlist, but from the coach’s perspective, he said that “Right now, I can’t help but put all my focus on my own team.”
“My mind is entirely on the run-in of the season,” the 45-year-old added when asked about the links to Inter.
“I prefer not to address these other rumours, that’s the truth,” Italiano said, ” I just want to work hard to try and get the best results.”
