Both of Inter defender Milan Skriniar and midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu are set to miss out on the Nerazzurri’s Serie A match away to Salernitana later this week.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that there would be zero chance of either of the pair returning in time to play against the Granata as they recover from their respective injuries.

Skriniar is still recovering from the back injury that has ruled him out of several Serie A matches as well as international duty with the Slovakian national team over the break.

The 28-year-old former Sampdoria defender’s availability for next Tuesday’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Benfica is considered uncertain, as he was still training individually in today’s session.

In any event, a decision as to whether or not Skriniar will be available to face Benfica will have to wait a few days, but what is clear is that he will not be fit and available in time for Friday’s league match against Salernitana.

Meanwhile, midfielder Calhanoglu continues his recovery from a thigh strain which he picked up whilst on international duty with Turkey during the break.

It is not certain precisely when the 29-year-old former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen man will be able to make his return, although it has been reported that the injury should see him out until some time in mid-April.

Previous reports have stated that there is “little hope” of Calhanoglu returning to fitness in time to play against Benfica in the first leg of the upcoming Champions League tie, although he could be targeting a return for the second leg.

In any event, there is no question that the Turk will not be fit for this Friday’s Serie A trip to the Stadio Arechi, as the Nerazzurri aim to get back to winning ways following three straight losses in the league.
