The injury news for Inter ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg match against Benfica is mixed, with Hakan Calhanoglu progressing in his recovery but Milan Skriniar set to miss out.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, who report that Calhanoglu’s recovery is inching along in view of the clash at the Estadio da Luz, whilst Skriniar still feels significant pain due to his injury.

Calhanoglu will certainly not be fit for tomorrow evening’s Serie A match against Salernitana, but the Turk is getting closer and closer.

According to Mediaset, the signs from today’s recovery work were positive, and the 29-year-old should be able to make his return to training relatively soon.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has been working on recovering from a strain to the adductor muscles in his right thigh, which he sustained whilst playing for the Turkish national team in a EURO 2024 qualifying match against Croatia.

Calhanoglu has made 37 appearances for Inter across all competitions so far this season, having emerged as a pivotal player in the deepest position in midfield whilst Marcelo Brozovic was out injured.

Meanwhile, Skriniar continues to recover from a back injury, but the Slovakian is still some way from recovering.

The 28-year-old former Sampdoria defender’s exact timeline for recovery is uncertain based on the nature of his injury, but for now he continues to feel significant discomfort due to the problem.

Accordingly, Mediaset reports, it is very unlikely that Skriniar will be back in time for Tuesday evening’s match away in Lisbon.

The Nerazzurri will face one of the most important matches in the context of their season next week, as they approach the first of two legs which could see them book their place in the semifinals of Europe’s top competition against either AC Milan or Napoli.
