Salernitana coach Paulo Sosa feels that his team’s 1-1 draw against Inter at the Stadio Arechi was something of a game of two halves.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, via FCInterNews, the 52-year-old admitted that the Granata’s first-half display didn’t represent them at their best, but then noted that in the second they found new life and did enough to deserve the point.

The first half of this afternoon’s match was more or less one-way traffic as Inter continued to pile on the pressure and chances long after Robin Gosens opened the scoring, but they were not able to increase their advantage.

Then, in the second half, things started to open up more, as the Nerazzurri continue to have chances but so did the Granata.

It was not from one of the more obvious chances to score that Sosa’s men finally found their equalizer, as an overhit Antonio Candreva sailed right into Inter’s goal.

However, despite the fluke nature of the goal, Sosa feels that overall it was a deserved result for his team based on their performance after the interval.

“In the first half we didn’t have our usual balance and we allowed the initiative to our opponent,” Sosa said after the match.

“We struggled with the ball coming in behind our wingbacks,” he continued, “and that’s how we conceded.”

“So we thought of ways to raise or defensive line, and we thought of changes to our tactical structure.”

“I think the way that we interpreted the second half was brilliant, and against Inter, anything can happen,” Sosa added.

“Inter have a goalkeeper who’s great with the ball at his feet, the Nerazzurri play both wide and deep, and so it’s hard to keep compact,” he added.

“Accordingly we changed our shape a bit to start with, allowing them more space in the wide areas, but for that reason we ended up having to sit very deep and we had to suffer a lot,” the Salernitana coach noted.

“In the second half we believed in ourselves and grew into the game really well,” he added.
