Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti admits that, had he been Inter President, he likely would not have let Simone Inzaghi remain coach for as long as he has done.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, via FCInterNews, the former Nerazzurri President suggested that as President he would have reacted to the defeats that the team have suffered by changing coaches already, although he noted that he wouldn’t necessarily have been right to do so.

Inzaghi has remained Inter coach throughout the season even in spite of the fact that the team have now suffered eleven losses in the league, and thirteen across all competitions.

The club have continually put their faith in the coach on the basis of some great performances in big matches, whilst it has been reported that Inzaghi has not yet lost the squad.

However, it cannot be ignored that after having gone into the season considered among the favourites to win the Serie A title, the Nerazzurri have now lost more than a third of their matches in the league already.

The fact that the club directors have not reacted by shaking things up on the bench has come as a surprise to many, although all indications have been that even at the worst parts of the season the club have not really wavered in their support of Inzaghi.

From the perspective of former President Moratti this is hardly likely to have been how he would have handled the situation.

“I don’t think I would have kept him around, I say that because I always sacked coaches after three or four losses,” he admitted.

“And I don’t doubt that in this case I would have made a mistake,” he added.

As for the Nerazzurri’s chances of reaching the Champions League semifinals, the former President said that “I’d give them 70% on the basis that they won 2-0 in the away leg.”

“Then again,” he cautioned, “70% means absolutely nothing in the Champions League.”
