Inter will have to pay around €20 million for Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario should they wish to sign him as a replacement for Andre Onana.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri could also offer young players as part of a deal to sign the 26-year-old should they find themselves in need of a replacement for Onana.

Whilst it is true that Onana only joined Inter from Ajax last summer, the rumours are abounding that the Cameroonian could be sold after just one season at the club.

Chelsea are particularly keen, and are reportedly set for talks with Inter.

Should the Nerazzurri decide to accept an offer from the Blues, which would particularly be a possibility in the event that they were to miss out on qualification for the group stage of next season’s Champions League, they are already strategizing for a replacement plan.

According to the Gazzetta, the links between Inter and Empoli keeper Vicario that have been reported in recent weeks are very strong indeed, and the Nerazzurri are already sounding out the situation.

The 26-year-old has been seen as one of the real breakout talents for Empoli over the past couple of seasons in Serie A, with a string of outstanding performances over the past two seasons crucial to his team not just staying safe in the top flight but also establishing a foothold in midtable.

If Inter were to sell Onana, the Gazzetta reports, it would certainly not be for a fee of any less than €40 million.

Of this, around half would need to be reinvested in Vicario as a like-for-like replacement for the Cameroonian, as Empoli are asking for €20 million.

On the other hand, the Nerazzurri could bring the cash fee down somewhat by offering players in return, with young striker Samuele Mulattieri and midfielder Gaetano Orsitanio possible makeweights in a deal.
