Confirmation has arrived that Inter are keen on signing Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi this summer.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, confirm the SempreInter report that the 24-year-old Dutchman is on the radar of the Nerazzurri as well as Napoli, with the player set to cost around €15 million.

Inter are set to sign at least one or two defenders during the summer window, with Milan Skriniar set to leave on a free transfer and the futures of all of Stefan de Vrij, Francesco Acerbi, Alessandro Bastoni, and Danilo D’Ambrosio also uncertain.

SempreInter were the first outlet to report that Doekhi is a player on the Nerazzurri’s radar, and that he is seen as a serious target to replace Skriniar during the summer.

Doekhi has even drawn comparisons to another Dutch defender in the form of Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk in terms of his style of play.

SempreInter also spoke to Doekhi’s agent Seraino Dalgliesh, who confirmed that the 24-year-old is indeed being looked at as a target by Inter, as well as Serie A rivals Napoli and teams in the Premier League and the Bundesliga.

Dalgliesh has made two other comparisons in terms of Doekhi’s style of play telling SempreInter that “I like to think of him as a mix of John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho only much taller.”

“He is good on the ball, extremely powerful in 1 v 1 situations defensively, and he is unstoppable in the air.”

According to the Corriere, there is indeed very real interest from Inter in signing Doekhi during the summer.

However, as the player’s agent has stated, as of yet the interest has not turned into any serious negotiations.

Doekhi joined Union from Vitesse, for whom he had made 140 appearances across four seasons, just last summer but has already cemented an integral place for himself as the Berlin team push for a place in the top four of the Bundesliga table.
