Inter wingback Federico Dimarco feels that it’s not too important whether his goal against Juventus was a totally deliberate touch, but that the only thing that mattered was that it went in to the net to put his team in the final of the Coppa Italia.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after this evening’s semifinal second leg clash, via FCInterNews, the wingback gave his thoughts on his goal and the win for the team.

Inter are in the final of the Coppa Italia.

After beating the likes of Parma and then Atalanta in the round of sixteen and the quarterfinals respectively, the Nerazzurri have dispatched Juventus over two legs to book their place against one of Fiorentina or Cremonese next month.

After a first leg which ended 1-1 to set up a finely-poised match this evening, Inter managed to keep a clean sheet at the San Siro, although given that the away goals rule is no longer in effect after having been scrapped at the start of this season, something more was needed.

That something more came in the form of a first half goal by wingback Dimarco.

The 26-year-old may well have been a bit surprised to find Nicolo Barella’s ball wriggle through to him, given that it looked to have been intended for striker Edin Dzeko and also had to make its way through a line of Bianconeri defenders.

However, once Dimarco did have the ball, the wingback made no mistake, and placed it past Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin to give the Nerazzurri a precious advantage, and in the end, send them through to the final of the competition.

Asked whether it was all intentional, Dimarco replied that “To tell you the truth, it doesn’t matter how I hit the ball, the important thing was that I score.”

Of the fact that he had been too nervous to watch the closing stages, Dimarco said that “In these matches, anything can happen right up until the last minute, I preferred not to watch.”
