There is a slight chance that Inter defender Milan Skriniar will be back fit in time for the Champions League final against Manchester City or Real Madrid if the Nerazzurri are to make it that far.

This according to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 28-year-old continues to work on his recovery from a back injury in Bordeaux, but that he will soon be back at Inter’s training facility with a view to potentially playing in the final of the Champions League.

The timing of Skriniar’s injury has meant that it is very uncertain whether or not the Slovakian international will ever play for Inter again.

The player underwent back surgery last month, after it had been decided that there was no other course of action for him to properly heal from the back injury that he has been dealing with since the end of February.

Whilst Skriniar did make a cameo appearance from the bench during the Nerazzurri’s Champions League round of sixteen second leg against Porto, it came at the cost of significant pain to the player.

The Slovakian then missed out on the March international break with his national team, and then found himself unable to recover in time for any of the Nerazzurri’s matches during the month of April.

Eventually, it was decided that Skriniar would have to undergo endoscopic surgery on his lumbar spine.

The 28-year-old, who is expected to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer at the end of the season, has been recovering in Bordeaux where he received the surgery.

However, the Gazzetta reports that Skriniar should return to the Nerazzurri’s training ground soon.

There is essentially no chance of Skriniar being fit for any of Inter’s matches before the Champions League final, but if they were to advance from their semifinal tie against AC Milan then there could be a chance.

However, Skriniar would arrive at that match having played virtually no football over the course of the last three months.
