The future of Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko remains uncertain, and it could well depend on the club’s ability to qualify for the next edition of the Champions League.

As Tuttosport via FcInter1908 explains, the experienced forward would likely leave the club once his contract expires at the end of the season if the club fails to reach the Champions League.

The 37-year-old currently earns €5 million per season as net wages, a figure that the Nerazzurri won’t be willing to pay in the absence of Champions League revenues.

On the other hand, Dzeko would be much more likely to linger in Milano for another year or two if Inter manage to book a spot in Europe’s elite club competition.

At the moment, Inter sit fourth in the Serie A table, which would be sufficient to secure a Champions League spot. However, they remain level on points with Milan and Roma who lie in fifth and sixth spots respectively.

Moreover, winning the current edition of the Champions League would grant the Beneamata access to the competition next season.

The source claims that the former Man City and Roma striker is gunning for a two-year contract, while the management is only willing to offer him a one-year extension plus an option for another season, and with a reduced salary.

The aging bomber joined Inter Milan from Roma in 2021 as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku who made his return to Chelsea at the time.

Despite the Belgian’s return to Appiano Gentile last summer, Dzeko was able to maintain his starting berth alongside Lautaro Martinez, but Lukaku is beginning to hit his stride as of late, making a strong claim for an automatic starting spot.
