Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko enjoyed getting back on the scoresheet with a brace against Hellas Verona, but he insists that reaching the Champions League final remains the club’s main objective.

The Nerazzurri thrashed their hosts with six unanswered goals on Wednesday night to consolidate their Top Four spot, taking advantage of Milan and Roma’s draws against Cremonese and Monza respectively.

The Bosnian made the most out of his return to the starting lineup, scoring a personal brace.

After the match, the 37-year-old admitted that he missed scoring goals following a drought period that lasted for more than three months.

Nonetheless, the aging bomber insists that Inter’s main objective remains to reach the final of the Champions League.

“Obviously I missed the goal, but I’ve already scored my goals, the most important ones. So I don’t suffer when I don’t score,” said the former Man City and Roma striker in his post-match interview with Sky Sport via FcInterNews.

“It’s clear that for a striker, scoring is important, but I don’t look at the record books.

“The important thing is to reach the Champions League final, secure our spot in the competition for next season and win the Coppa Italia.”

The Nerazzurri will clash heads with their crosstown rivals AC Milan in the Champions League semi-final, and Dzeko admits that their opponents are equally-strong.

“Milan are strong, but we believe in ourselves. We know we’re strong, even if we lose this awareness every now and then, and we lose games that we should never lose.

“But we just need to look ahead. Today was an important win, also considering the results of other teams.”
