On-loan Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku could receive another chance at Chelsea if the Premier League club appoints Mauricio Pochettino as head coach.

The former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain coach is strongly linked with the Blues’ bench for next season. The West London side is enduring a calamitous campaign, and the situation is degenerating with every managerial change.

Luckily for Lukaku, his loan switch to Inter Milan spared him from all the misery at Stamford Bridge, but the striker could still have a future at Chelsea.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Pochettino has recognized the need for a centre-forward in the squad while negotiating with Chelsea.

Since the Premier League giants already have one giant bomber on the books, the Argentine manager would attempt to persuade Lukaku and convince him to try his luck again in West London.

The source adds that Chelsea’ management realize that they won’t be able to re-collect the €113 million they spent to sign the 29-year-old from Inter in the summer of 2021. Therefore, maintaining his services would be the best possible solution from a financial standpoint.

During the 2021/22 campaign, Lukaku had a poor rapport with then-Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel, so the latter’s departure could open the door for a possible return to Stamford Bridge.

However, the report claims that the striker’s problems at Chelsea went beyond his relationship with the German manager, and that his return to Milano was rather a “life choice”.

This season, the Belgian international has so far netted nine goals and provided fives assists in 28 appearances in all competitions.
