Inter Milan defender Danilo D’Ambrosio won’t travel with his teammates to Roma this weekend, as his coach Simone Inzaghi decided to rest him as a precautionary measure.

The Nerazzurri will take on Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in a direct battle for the remaining Champions League spots. The match will kick off at 6:00 pm CET on Saturday.

However, D’Ambrosio will remain at home following an injury scare in midweek, as reported by Sky Sport via FcInterNews.

The experienced defender started the match against Hellas Verona on Wednesday, but left his place on the pitch to Matteo Darmian early in the second half after sustaining a slight knock.

Luckily for Inter, his condition isn’t serious, but the technical staff preferred to rest him as a precaution, especially in view of next Wednesday’s universally-anticipated EuroDerby in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final between AC Milan and Inter.

While the 34-year-old isn’t a first-choice player in Inzaghi’s pecking order, his experience and versatility always come handy, especially at this decisive stage of the season.

In Inter’s current 3-5-2 formation, the former Torino man can fill in either at the back-three or on the wings.

In addition to D’Ambrosio, the Nerazzurri will be without German wingback Robin Gosens, who hurt himself while scoring a goal against Lazio last weekend, and Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar.
